Lanette is a diminutive form of the Middle English and Old French word 'lane', combined with the French feminine suffix '-ette'. It may also be considered a variant of Lynette, which has roots in the Welsh name Eluned, meaning 'idol' or 'image'. The name saw its peak popularity in the United States during the mid-20th century.
