Ladainian is a modern American creation without a traditional etymological root. It is most likely a combination of the popular prefix 'La-' with the name Dainian, which itself may be a variant of Damian or Dana. It gained significant visibility in the early 2000s due to the fame of NFL star LaDainian Tomlinson.
