Kile is a variant of the Scottish surname Kyle, derived from the Gaelic word 'caol' meaning a narrow channel or strait. It is also occasionally used as a phonetic variant of the German name Keil, meaning wedge. In modern usage, it is often chosen as a unique spelling of the more common Kyle.
