Derived from the Hebrew name Kenanyahu, it is composed of the elements 'kanan', meaning to establish or plant, and 'yah', referring to the Hebrew God. In the Old Testament, Kenaniah was a leader of the Levites noted for his musical ability and directing the singing during the transport of the Ark of the Covenant.
