Karyssa is a modern American elaboration of Carissa, which is derived from the Greek word 'charis' meaning grace. It is also frequently associated with the Latin 'carus', meaning dear or beloved. The 'K' spelling gives it a contemporary, creative flair compared to its more traditional counterparts.
