The name Jumar has two primary associations. In a mountaineering context, it refers to a mechanical ascender used for climbing, derived from the names of its Swiss inventors, Juesy and Marti. In an Arabic context, it is sometimes used as a variant related to 'Jumu'ah', the holy day of Friday.
