Rule of the spear
Jerold is a variant of Gerald, derived from the Germanic elements 'ger' meaning spear and 'wald' meaning rule. It was introduced to the English-speaking world by the Normans and has seen various spelling evolutions over the centuries. While less common than the 'Gerald' or 'Jerrold' spellings, it retains a sense of mid-century strength.
