Jemma is a variant of Gemma, a name of Italian origin meaning 'gem' or 'precious stone.' It is also sometimes associated with the Hebrew name Jemima, which means 'dove.' In the UK, the 'J' spelling became a popular alternative to the traditional Italian 'G' spelling during the late 20th century.
