Jaedah is a modern phonetic elaboration of the name Jade, which refers to the ornamental gemstone. The name of the stone is derived from the Spanish phrase 'piedra de la ijada', meaning 'stone of the side', as it was believed to cure ailments of the loins and kidneys.
