Isabeau is a distinctive medieval French variation of Isabel, which itself stems from the Hebrew name Elisheba. While it was famously borne by French royalty in the Middle Ages, it fell out of common usage for centuries before being rediscovered by parents seeking a rare, romantic alternative to Isabella.
