Ilyssa is a modern American variant of Alyssa or Elissa. It likely derives from the Germanic 'Adalheidis' meaning noble, or the Hebrew 'Elisheba' meaning God is my oath. It is also associated with the alyssum flower, which was historically believed to cure madness.
