Illyana is a modern elaboration of the name Iliana or Eliana. It is often associated with the Greek word for 'sun' or 'shining,' though it also evokes the ancient region of Illyria in the Balkans. In popular culture, it is strongly linked to the Marvel Universe character Magik.
