Idalie is a rare French diminutive of Ida, which stems from the Germanic element 'id', meaning work or labor. It is also sometimes associated with the Greek 'Idalia', referring to the city of Idalium and the goddess Aphrodite. In modern usage, it serves as a softer, more melodic alternative to the classic Ida.
