Lady of the waters
In Tupi-Guarani mythology, Iara was a beautiful mermaid or water nymph who lived in the Amazon River. The name is derived from the Old Tupi words 'y' meaning water and 'รฎara' meaning lady or master. It remains a popular legendary figure in Brazilian folklore.
