In Greek mythology, Ia is often associated with the violet flower, linked to the nymph Io or the daughter of Midas. In a Georgian context, it is a common name directly meaning 'violet'. It also appears in Cornish tradition as the name of a 5th-century saint who founded the town of St Ives.
