The hyacinth flower or precious stone
Derived from the Greek name Hyakinthos, it refers to both the fragrant spring flower and a deep blue gemstone. In Greek mythology, the name is associated with a youth accidentally killed by Apollo, from whose blood the flower was said to have sprung.
