Hedy is a diminutive of Hedwig, a Germanic name composed of the elements 'hadu' (battle) and 'wig' (fight). It was popularized in the mid-20th century by Hollywood star Hedy Lamarr. While it carries a fierce etymological meaning, its sound is often perceived as sweet and vintage.
