One of two fallen angels in Islamic tradition
In Islamic theology, Harut and Marut were two angels sent to Babylon to test mankind by teaching magic. While the name has ancient roots, it is most commonly used today within Armenian and Muslim communities. In an Armenian context, it is often used as a diminutive or variant of Harutyun, which means resurrection.
