Half-Dane or from the slope of the hill
Halden is a name with two primary etymological paths. In its Germanic and Norse roots, it historically referred to someone who was a 'Half-Dane.' Alternatively, in Old English, it is derived from 'heald,' meaning a slope or hillside, and 'denu,' meaning a valley.
