A Spanish-influenced phonetic variant of Giovanni, which is the Italian form of the Hebrew name Yochanan. It signifies the belief that God has been merciful or gracious in granting a child. While the double-n spelling is more traditional, this single-n version is occasionally used in American and Latin American contexts.
