Gimena is a Spanish variant of Ximena, which is the feminine form of Jimeno. It ultimately derives from the Hebrew name Shimon, meaning 'he has heard'. The name has a long history in the Iberian Peninsula, famously associated with the wife of the legendary El Cid.
