Ester is a variation of the Persian name Esther, meaning 'star'. It is also associated with the Old Persian word 'stara' and the Babylonian goddess Ishtar. While the spelling with an 'h' is more common in English-speaking countries, this version is widely used in Scandinavia, Spain, and Italy.
