Eoin is the traditional Irish form of John. It shares the same etymological roots as the Scottish Ian and the Welsh Evan, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan. In Ireland, it is a distinct name from Se!n, which is the French-influenced Norman version of John.
