Deloris is a variant of the Spanish name Dolores, which refers to the Virgin Mary as Nuestra Señora de los Dolores, or Our Lady of Sorrows. While the meaning is somber, the name has historically been chosen to honor religious devotion. It peaked in popularity in the United States during the 1930s.
