Small valley or noble
Dalena is often considered a diminutive of Dale, referring to a valley, or a variant of Magdalena. In some contexts, it is also associated with the Germanic element 'adal', meaning noble. It gained modest use in the mid-20th century as a rhythmic, feminine alternative to more traditional names.
Less common today
Dalena isn't in the latest US Top 1000. It last peaked at #2,502 in 1993.
