Grain or little fish
Dagon was a major Northwest Semitic deity, originally associated with fertility and agriculture. In the Hebrew Bible, he is primarily known as the national god of the Philistines. The name's etymology is debated, linked either to the Semitic root for 'grain' or the Hebrew word for 'fish'.
