Laurel tree or bay tree
Derived from the Greek name Daphne, it refers to the laurel tree. In Greek mythology, Dafne was a nymph who transformed into a laurel tree to escape the pursuit of Apollo. This spelling is the common form used in Italian and Spanish-speaking cultures.
