Artichoke; thistle
Derived from the Greek word 'kynara', referring to the artichoke or thistle plant. In Greek mythology, Cynara was a beautiful woman transformed into the first artichoke by Zeus after she rejected him. The name gained literary recognition through Ernest Dowson's famous 19th-century poem.
