Wild goose or priest
Cohan has two distinct etymological paths. It is often an anglicized form of the Irish surname O'Cadhain, meaning 'descendant of the wild goose'. Alternatively, it is sometimes used as a variant of the Jewish surname Cohen, which denotes a member of the priestly caste.
