Chayla is often considered a modern phonetic variant of the Hebrew name Chaya, meaning life. It may also be interpreted as a combination of the popular prefix 'Cha-' with the name Layla or Kayla. In some contexts, it is used as a creative American adaptation of traditional Semitic roots.
