Exalted one
Berit is a Scandinavian diminutive of Birgitta, which itself is derived from the Old Irish name Brighid. It carries the meaning of 'exalted' or 'lofty' and is traditionally associated with strength and nobility in Northern Europe. While common in Norway and Sweden, it remains a rare and distinctive choice in the United States.
