Azia is a variant of the name Asia, which is derived from the ancient Greek word for the continent. It ultimately traces back to an Akkadian word meaning 'to go out' or 'to rise,' referring to the sun's position in the east. In Greek mythology, Asia was also the name of an Oceanid nymph.
