Little hazelnut or desired
Avaline is a diminutive form of the Germanic name Avila, which likely stems from the element 'av', meaning 'desired'. It is also frequently associated with the Latin 'avellana', referring to the hazelnut tree. The name gained some usage in medieval England and has recently been rediscovered as a rare alternative to Adeline or Evelyn.
