Audrie is a variant of the Old English name Audrey, which is derived from the name Æthelthryth. It combines the elements 'æthel' meaning noble and 'thryth' meaning strength. The name was popularized by the 7th-century Saint Etheldreda, who founded an abbey at Ely.
