A variant of Arianna, which is the Italian form of the Greek name Ariadne. It is composed of the Greek elements 'ari', a superlative prefix, and 'adnos', meaning holy. The name gained popularity through the Greek mythological figure Ariadne, who helped Theseus escape the Labyrinth.
