In Latin, Arista refers to the awn or 'ear' of grain, specifically wheat or corn, often associated with the harvest. In a Greek context, it is derived from 'aristos', meaning 'the best', which is the root of the word aristocracy. It is also the name of a star in the constellation Virgo, representing the spike of grain held by the maiden.
