Argelia is the Spanish name for the country of Algeria. It is derived from the Arabic 'al-Jaza'ir', which translates to 'the islands', referring to the small islands that once existed in the Bay of Algiers. In some contexts, it is also associated with the Greek word 'argurion', meaning silver or treasure.
