Amenda is a rare variant of Amanda, derived from the Latin gerundive 'amanda' meaning 'she who must be loved' or 'worthy of love'. While Amanda became a staple of the 20th century, the Amenda spelling remains an obscure and unique alternative. It shares the same romantic etymology as Amy and Mabel.
