Noble friend or friend of the elves
Alvan is a variant of Alvin, derived from the Old English names Aelfwine or Aeðelwine. It combines elements meaning 'elf' or 'noble' with 'friend'. While Alvin became the standard form, Alvan retains a distinct, vintage character.
