Alexza is a modern elaboration of the name Alexa, which is a feminine form of Alexander. It is derived from the Greek name Alexandros, combining 'alexein' (to defend) and 'aner' (man). The addition of the 'z' provides a contemporary, stylistic flair to the classic root.
