Alanie is a modern elaboration of Alana, which has roots in the Old Breton word for 'little rock' or 'handsome.' It may also be influenced by the Hawaiian name Alani, meaning 'orange tree' or 'awakening.' In recent years, it has emerged as a rhythmic, feminine alternative to more common names like Alanis or Melanie.
