Derived from the Arabic root 'k-b-r', it is the elative form of 'kabir', meaning great. It is one of the attributes of Allah in Islam, often heard in the phrase 'Allahu Akbar'. Historically, it is most famously associated with the 16th-century Mughal Emperor who expanded the empire across the Indian subcontinent.
