In Sanskrit, the name is derived from 'Abhi' (towards) and 'Manyu' (spirit or passion). It is most famously borne by the son of Arjuna and Subhadra in the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata, where he is celebrated as a tragic and courageous young warrior.
