Religious ritual of light
Derived from the Sanskrit word 'Aratrika', it refers to a Hindu religious ritual of worship in which light from wicks soaked in ghee or camphor is offered to one or more deities. It symbolizes the removal of darkness and the offering of one's self to the divine.
